Boab (Adansonia gregorii)

Boab trees are a feature of the landscape of the Kimberley and Victoria River Districts of north-western Australia.
Notwithstanding a seeming capacity to store water in the swollen trunks, these trees are deciduous during the long hot tropical dry season (typically 6 to 9 months each year) experienced in these areas.

Astonishing trees. I have always thought of the Boabs as indigenous to Africa.

I love these trees - must be related to the African Adansonia digitata. On long trips across Africa, my sister and I used to have competitions as to who could count the most on their side of the car. Beautifully captured here V
