a sun-orchid (Thelymitra sp)

There were quite a few in flower today (9 August) on a ridge in dry eucalypt forest - and several donkey-orchids as well.
Given it hasn't rained for some time (it is the tropical dry season), these plants must be using water stored in their tuber.

These are exquisite, both in colour and form. A beautiful shot. I don't often associate orchids with dry forests, and yet here one of our local, common orchids, is often found under pines in dry conditions.V
