Elves may be rarely seen because they inhabit Stockwellia trees – which are themselves very rare.
Seriously, the tree is Stockwellia (Stockwellia quadrifida).
The species was discovered quite recently and is known from only two locations deep in the north Queensland rainforest; it was formally described for science in 2002.
These forest giants are relicts of wetter times dating back more than 10 million years – but related to the eucalypts (family Myrtaceae) that have prospered as Australia became a drier continent.
