Eleanor of Aquitaine was one of the most powerful and fascinating personalities of feudal Europe.
Eleanor was Duchess of Aquitaine and Gascony and Countess of Poitou was one of the wealthiest and most powerful women in Europe during the High Middle Ages. She was Queen consort of both France and England in turn and the mother of both King Richard I and King John. She married Louis VII, King of France at age 15 with whom she accompanied on the Second Crusade, entering Constantinople in 1147 A.D.
Later at age 30 she married King Henry II of England.
Her tomb is at Fontevraud Abbey. Nearby lies one of her sons Richard I "the Lionheart".
