Klaus Sjogren and his wife Katie lived across the cul-de-sac from me for years starting in 1980, when I moved in to ruin the neighborhood, and they were great neighbors who lived every summer in Canada.
Klaus moved to Miami in 1935 and he began farming in western Hialeah in 1945, supplying produce to local food markets and grocery chains. He sold a portion of his land to the state so the Palmetto Expressway could be built in the late 50's and many years later sold another portion to the founders of Palmetto General Hospital so they could build the hospital at W. 68th Street and the Palmetto.
Klaus passed away on March 21, 2006, at the age of 92.
