I wonder if the grandstand was moved. This is how I remember the track, but the postcard of fishing boats heading west on Government Cut in the '40's shows the Dog Track/Grandstand on the Atlantic side facinf West. Were there two grandstands in later years?

I was a patron in 1957-58. Working at the Southern Bell ATT Telephone Office on Miami Beach. A date took me to my first (and last) dog race. I lost my paycheck (bad enough), but the real sadness was over what was happening to the dogs. A man sitting next to me told me that some dogs died on the track from a burst heart. I never returned.

Hi Rachelle, yes, it's been gone for a couple of decades now. There are now giant condos on this site all the way from the beach westward. There is a recent photo of this area, taken from the old South Beach, athttp://www.pbase.com/donboyd/image/99163520 in the 70's and later gallery.

I went here on a date with my boyfriend after it opened in the late fifties. Is that gone now?
