This photo was probably taken in the winter as the Civil Aeronautics Board had allowed an "interchange" arrangement between Capital and National based upon the situation where each had a high seasonal business. Capital was very busy in the Midwest in the summer and National on the Northeast - Miami run in the winter. So each flew flights over the other's routes during their off season. It kept everyone's airplanes busy. Eventually in an attempt to keep Capital solvent the CAB awarded it runs to Florida. Those runs eventually became a major incentive for United when Capital merged with it. Thus the United presence at MIA.
