Thank you to Jumpin' Jack O'Brien for contributing this image. Jumpin' Jack says: "Don, I call this one "exuberance" ... just doing the show was wonderful ... and there were times when I felt so great doing it that I almost exploded ... like here ... There was no show like it then, or since ... my idea was to integrate the films with the live portions ... in order to do that I had to look at each opening shot for all of the films that we used and write down what was happening. I edited out all the opening credits on all the films ... so the first thing you saw was some kind of action. Then I would write the copy for the puppets and myself all leading toward that opening. For example, if the first shot on the film was Lou Costello catching a football, I would write something for Jack E. Parrot to say about football, etc., etc., and then I would pick up a football in the studio ... look at the camera and say ... "Hey Lou ..... catch!" and throw the football at the camera. The director would then cut to the film and the first shot you would see would be Lou Costello catching a football. It was all very subtle, and I am not sure anyone even realized it. I did it on every single film we used."
"I graduated from the University of Miami in 1957 with a major in Radio-TV and Film so I knew a thing or two about editing. In fact, I interned in my senior year at Channel Seven WCKT and they put me to work editing movies down to the required time."
