1963 - the "Dolly Madison" Everglades and Jungle sightseeing boat in the Ocean Canal, Sunny Isles

North of Kings Point Drive, Sunny Isles, Florida

This boat was operated by Gray Line Sightseeing Boats back when we had jungles and Everglades nearby instead of concrete canyons. The Ocean Canal was south of Poincianna Island and north of Kings Point Drive, about three and a half blocks north of the northern boundary of Haulover Beach Park.

Leeds and Keith, thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments and updates on "Dolly." It's nice to hear that she is still alive and still performing sightseeing duties for the benefit of the current owner and the public. Keith's e-mail address is probably not visible to this site's visitors like it is to me so I will repeat it here in my comments so people can contact him for a current photo of the boat. It is: keithboas@gmail.com

The Dolly now operates on the Erie Canal under the name Colonial Belle, based in Fairport, NY. It's owner/operator since 1995 is Captain Lee Poinan. The boat runs daily out of Fairport (mid May -- mid November), taking tourists/students on short, usually half-day, excursions. If anyone wants a recent photo of the boat, contact me via email.

This boat spent some time on the Connecticut River in Hartford, taking people on day trips. I worked on her. Strange to remember that I moved from Coral Gables to Connecticut just before the "Dolly" followed. Wonder where she ended up.
