1985 - a British Airways Concorde and two DC-3's parked on E-Satellite remote positions at sunset

Miami International Airport, Florida

The British Airways Concordes overnighted at MIA on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 1984 until they ended SST service to Miami in 1990. We could not afford to let it sit on a gate from mid-afternoon until the following morning so they were towed from a gate to a remote parking position to sit overnight. The remote positions were due north of the E-Satellite and were served either by the remote terminal where passengers were escorted out to their aircraft or picked up by Aviation Department buses.

Quite a photograph. The DC-3 was the first truly practical airliner capable of unsubsidized operations. The Concorde was the fastest airliner ever but was essentially incapable of surviving without a subside. There are a few DC-3s still in scheduled service whilst the Concordes have all been grounded forever.
