Mid to late 1950's - an Eastern Air Lines DC-7B preparing to takeoff on runway 27L at Miami International Airport

Miami International Airport, Miami, Florida

Thank you to Jack Skipper for contributing this great old image, taken from Perimeter Road in the southeast section of Miami International Airport. FAA Tower #7 is visible in the background slightly to the left of center. The warehouses and businesses near the tower haven't been torn down yet to build MIA's new 20th Street Terminal. I believe that Jack took the photo from due south of where Concourse H (originally Concourse 1) and J are located now.

Thank you for giving credit to Mr. Jack Skipper on this photo. I knew Mr. Skipper as the Skipper family lived a few houses down from us in Hialeah. I played with his son Dean for several years. Mr. Skipper retired as a foreman at Eastern. My father Vernon Smith was a twenty year mechanic at Eastern when he retired. Those were good times that left a positive impression on me. I love aviation and spent many Friday afternoons watching the aircraft takeoff and land at MAI. Today I fly helicopters for the Army as a civilian flight instructor and think often about growing up in South Florida. Thank you for the wonderful website.
