Also known as the Old Cathedral, the Basilica was consecrated on October 26, 1834 and was the only parish church in St. Louis until 1845. It was spared from demolition when old buildings in the area were demolished to build the adjacent Gateway Arch in the 1960's. It is now the second most popular Catholic facility for weddings out of 196 Catholic churches in the St. Louis area.
