The beach to the east of the track and south of the pier was known as "South Beach" in the 50's and 60's. Everything else on the south end of Miami Beach was called "South Shore" and over time that name disappeared in favor of "South Beach" and the term "South Beach" now covers the area from Government Cut northward past Lincoln Road which is really absurd.

We hung out at the beach here in high school- there was a pier and some jettys. This is where the guys came to go "surfing". This is now South Beach
