This is a test of the HDR function in the new version of Lightroom. It doesn't have
the same degree of control as Photomatix, but it is much faster and easier to use.

The Tamron lens that I used is plenty sharp enough, but it is prone to flaring.

Best viewed at original size.

I think it looks great. I would like to compare it to the individual shots you took. V

Unique point of view and beautiful light.

I downloaded the updated version of PS just yesterday; it supposedly has a new HDR tool with it as well (doubtless the same code as is used in the update to LR). It may be that we'll need to do some work to really get to grips with it; unfortunately any HDR software is a long way from fully automated. I'll be interested to see how you go with it.

I have Photomatix and sometimes it looks way over processed. I have PS, but not Lightroom. I do like the light and shadows in this. Great compo too.

Nice capture, Don. Thanks for the report on the LR functionality. I haven't used that yet but may give it a go. I've only used Photomatix and only after a lot of subsequent manipulation. It gets a lot of stuff looking pretty fake very quickly. I don't see the image above as being overly over-processed.

A stunning scene, I am still wondering whether to upgrade!

I did a similar test as your and I came to the same conclusion. As I use HDR very infrequently, I stopped there. I Look forward to seeing what else you come up with.

always a delight to view Quathiaski Cove, and the wispy clouds are wonderful...interesting blend of the 7 pix, retaining both shadows and bright spots...you are well on the way to some spectacular results..

I think the result is spectacular. V

I think it's a pretty good result. Maybe the lower left is a little too hot, but I get the sense that I'm standing there with the sun blasting me like it would at that hour over the water.

An interesting experiment Don. I look forward to seeing more and would also like to the LR and Photomatix versions side by side.
