Hallgrímskirkja - the church of Hallgrímur is a Lutheran church and one of the tallest structures in Iceland. It took 38 years to build. The statue of explorer Leif Eriksson in front was a gift from the US in 1930 and predates the start of construction of the church by 15 years. The building was started in 1945 and finished in 1986. It is very easy to find since you can see it from pretty much anywhere in Reykjavik.
Even though the sun had been up for a couple hours, it was still very low and directly behind the church. To see the monochrome version of this, please go to www.pbase.com/dlgphoto/image/147924646.
