Flashing the moon

I went outside at dusk to look for opportunities to get some flash-photos.
I looked up and saw the moon, and for no good reason, took the shot (with
the flash). Then I took the same shot without flash, and darn it, the flash
shot was better. The sky was darker with the flash.

I have NO idea why this is, nor can I imagine using the flash again to get
a shot of the moon. But that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

What you see here is a 100% crop. By the way, there is NO noise on my monitor
until I load it up to pBase. Another thing I don't understand! And the exif
data on PBase says no flash, but the exif data on the original image in Camera
Raw says there WAS a flash. Geesh!

As for the change in image qualtiy, read this post.

Pbase will not re-process images that are 800 pixels on thier long edge, but *does* reprocess those that are larger. Also, use sRGB as your colour profile. Hope that helps. ~Inga

I get annoyed at Pbase system messing with my images too...as for the "flash exif " it's not worked for a long long time...now, how about the speed again :>(

Anyway Gary, your moon is perfect...still say it's a rockmelon up there. :>)

Nice shot with the flash Gary, and yes, the mysteries of PBase.
Kerry Tingley07-Jan-2009 15:06
It's a great shot for whatever reason!

Having flash on would have changed the way the metering mode - I can't explain why it gave a better result though. Either that or you have the world's most powerful flash. Nice sharp moon photo.

Spooky eh, apart from the exif flash info, that's probably just a conspiracy :)

Isn't this cool! I've had the same experience with sunsets and have had more "experienced" photo friends denigrate me, saying "that won't make any difference!!!" but it does! Love it! Great, GREAT shot!

Outstanding moon shot.

Excellent shot and detail. It is facing down, no wonder we're getting so much rain, it is emptying itself.
