Wind River Camping 2009

The Wind River Range runs Southeast for about 120 miles as a spur off the Absaroka Range in Wyoming. The summits range up to 13,800 feet at Gannett Peak. The Wind River area encompasses over 2.25 million acres. There are three major rivers that are fed from the Wind River range. The Gros Ventre, the Green, and the Wind (which is a tributary of the Yellowstone river). The Continental Divide runs along the crests of the peaks in the Wind River range. Four wilderness areas; the Bridger Wilderness, Fitzpatrick Wilderness, The Wind River Roadless area, and the Popo Agie Wilderness. Bridger is the largest (at 428,169 acres. There are over 2000 high-mountain lakes dotting the area.
