Gilo is now part of Jerusalem. However it is also a settlement built on Palestinian land. American media refer to it as a "neighbourhood" of Jerusalem, obscuring this fact. Should there one day be a Palestinian and Israeli state living side-by-side in peace, many suggest that settlements like Gilo will remain under Israeli control. Time will tell. Personally I hope that whatever solution is finally negotiated, it will be one just to both peoples.
