My first track meet shoot in over a year. My heavily Ace-bandaged knee made me feel like staying in just a few locations and trying to shoot without the need to walk too far. Although I felt okay standing, I couldn't assume any kneeling shooting positions and I'd never seen the stadium, which accounted for two strikes against me. I shot 565 total frames on about 2.4 gigs of CF in NEF mode, and I had 70 shots that I junked due to focus errors.Of the apprx. 500 frames I had to show, I slam-bang post-processed these 50 shots in Nikon Capture 4.1 at one sitting on my speedy new Sony Vaio PC running WinXP. This is my first-ever full session done on a PC computer, and in sRGB workflow entirely in NC without Photoshop.Yup,that's right--my first Windows based PC event ever. I dunno....it's different from the Macintosh, but Nikon Capture 4.1 on a modern P-4 processor with "just" 1 gig of RAM is amazingly fast compared to NC 4.1 on my aging Macintoshes. There are only about four decent shots out of my 50 selections, and so this was a kind of disappointing shoot for me. With my bad knee and all, I elected to carry JUST the D1h and the 300,and I deliberately left a second body and my 100-300 f4 HSM or my 70-200VR at home. I actually wish I would have brought a zoom lens with me, but I do love the file quality of the 2.8 AFS-II Nikkor under flat, lifeless, overcast skies. The lens was about the only thing good on this day's shooting, but then not all days can be photo-heaven. But still, for the kids involved, and for their parents, I hope the photos are appreciated and enjoyed despite their average artistic merit.
