Petra is a unique ruin site of a whole city that was carved into the rock face by the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled here more than 2000 years ago. During my 7-day stay in Jordan I went to Petra twice, though the first time was an optional short night "tour" which only reached the Treasury as the destination. There were no electrical lights anywhere, but just candles that barely lit the passage way (Siq) for the tourists to walk on. And in the dark no one could see any scenery along the Siq which is longer than 1 km. Taking photos of the Treasury was more than challenging.
The next morning the whole group followed our guide Samer to walk through the Siq. That was a totally different experience. The landscape itself is awesome. Though I was well prepared for what I was about to see at the end of the Siq, but the second when the Treasury partially appeared before my eyes, I was still stunned. Everyone more or less felt moved by the sight, like a pilgrim witnessing a miracle. It was all worthwhile walking through the long and narrow gorge. This path makes this incredible place more striking and captivating.
Beautiful gallery of a fascinating place. No wonder you went again. I have just returned from Petra and already planning my next trip there. Thanks for sharing these images. V
