My tour reached the Pink City Jaipur in the late afternoon, and all the sightseeing activities were squeezed into the next day. It was a very productive day starting with Amer Fort (some call it Amber Fort) which to some tourists, especially children, was the highlight of the whole journey, because here they could enjoy the elephant ride all the way uphill to reach the fort. The fort is impressive as it overlooks the Maota Lake, and the whole architecture masterpiece is laid out on 4 levels. Each level has its courtyard joined by difference palaces or halls.
The City Palace is located right in the centre of Jaipur. Like Amer or Amber Fort, it consists of elegant palaces and other buildings for the royal families.
Jantar Mantar Observatory is a collection of nineteen architectural astronomical instruments completed in the 18th Century. It features the world's largest stone sundial. The monument was damaged later and restored.
Hawa Mahal is very charming though what we saw from across the street was mainly a wall. Inside this wall there are more than 900 windows decorated with intricate latticework. The original intent was to provide a good viewpoint for the royal ladies to observe everyday life and festivals celebrated in the street below without being seen, for they were not allowed to appear in public without covering their faces.
