Great memories. I was chief engineer at KKJO 68-72. One of the best fun jobs ever,of course being Tom Elkins'(owner/GM)good buddy didn't hurt. Seeing the old gang was great. Anyone know where Rick Morgan(Danny Taylor)and Rod Aterbery are?. Tom passed away a few years back and we were friends to the end. We both lived in Texas and visited often. Longtime Maui radio broadcaster Everett dies March 6, 2008 By HARRY EAGAR, Staff Writer Save \| Bookmark and Share WAILUKU — Greg Everett, a low-key radio broadcaster whose voice was heard around the state fielding calls about highways, died Tuesday of a heart attack. On Maui, he was known both as co-host of a long-running Thursday talk show on KAOI and as a genial salesman and teller of corny jokes. He was station/sales manager at KAOI.

WOW! Does this bring back memories. I was News Director at KKJO in the late 70's, my on air name was Mike Landry. St. Joe was perhaps the best time in my life, despite a divorce; maybe that's why it was so much fun. The people, especially Dave Knight and Steve Carpenter will always be my dearest friends. Deane, thanks for putting up these photos. Do you have any of Joey Barrett and her fro?

KKJO was my favorite radio station growing up, I loved the 70's and I loved KKJO and all the personalites...Gregg Everett, Steve Carpenter, Don Emis, Dave Knight, Rick Austin, Jiggs Tootle...They'll never be another KKJO AM...a once in a liftime deal.thanks guys, You made growing up in St. Joe great! I stumbled on this site as I googled for "Jiggs Tootle" and eventually KKJO/KSFT. (I was relating my dismal failure as sub-host for Jiggs one night during an election campaign and my friend couldn't believe someone actually had that name.) Some great shots and I think I recognize the control board as from my news cubicle at the Woodbine location in the late 80's. Naturally, under the Gorm's guidance, upgrading the newsroom was not a priority. Thanks for the memories and I look forward to more. Hello Again Dean! It was back in the late 70's when I managed KSFT and KUSN for Ron Gray and Bud Hunter. A lot of years have passed but I will always remember the folks at KKJO. Your station was one of the most memorable in my past. Here I sit now, after stops in Houston and Chicago as Market Manager for ClearChannel, Fort Dodge but I will never forget St. Joe and my friends at KKJO! To all of you, the very best! Bob Straczek

Wow!! Great shots Deane! This is the first time I have seen many of these. What a blast from the past. It certainly was the fun days of AM radio. I'll never forget the famous words of Deane Johnson who happened in the office one day and commented on one of the other part-time weekend jocks (who shall remain nameless)....."can't you staple a pair of balls on that boy?" I really enjoyed the classic shots too from the other stations. Love the WHB shots. Good grief! What a dive!! It looks like someone's ham shack. I think most listeners envisioned the Taj Mahal or something like it. Keep the K-JO pics coming. I'm saving every one. Best to the family, Bob Heater (Dave Knight 1974-1980)
