This is the result of resizing a QuickTime player window to 1080p size, enlarging the Nikon D5000 720p video. The image still has more detail present than Canon 1080p native frames from the EOS 500D. After comparing many different 'takes' frame by frame, whatever lenses were involved and whatever subjects, I conclude that the Nikon uses minimal compression and noise reduction, retaining a very high level of real image detail in the video.
