The Thirlmere "Festival of Steam" was on this weekend. Four vintage steam locomotives from the local
Rail Transport Museum were in operation, pulling trains of antique carriages to Buxton or Picton
and back. There were thousands of keen photographers present ... mostly Nikon users for some reason.

A picture postcard shot, in the best sense of the phrase. Great, beautiful color and detail. BV

I rode in them as a child and really didn't like the change over when they retired the steam engine.
My cousin was an engineer and I am sure drove these types.
I can see the interest both nostalgic and for photographers. Great shot of this beauty.

What is it about old steam engines? They're noisy, really smelly, aim soot painfully into your eye
and yet people turn out by the hundreds to admire one chugging along.

Looks like a grand day for letting off a bit of steam :)
