Massive roadworks are going on along the Great Western Highway (leading into the Blue Mountains),
which is being upgraded to contemporary four lane express standards. At Lawson, community action
has prevented the old Mechanics Institute Hall (dating from 1903) from being demolished to make way
for the engineering works. The building has survived but the original porch and vestibule has
had to be lopped off. As it is, to my mind, it sticks out too close to the main thoroughfare. For
one thing, the breakdown lane is interrupted at this point. Aaaaanyway I grabbed this picture of
the front of the building, by setting sunlight, as we drove past it.
