My grandfather was Walter John Ballard, b. 10 Sept 1922 here in New Zealand. He married Patricia Alwyn McMillan 10 Jan 1928 – 27 Jan 1997. They had 3 sons: Wayne Ballard 14 Dec 1949, Michael John Ballard 17 Jan 1953 & Bryan Philip Ballard 31 Dec 1954. It is Bryan who the kit tested. There are a number of us – 21 great-grandchildren of Walters at the moment. Bryan himself now lives in Australia.

Walters parents were Fred Ballard (1885-1941) & Eleanor Mary Ann Waller (1891-1973). Fred was born (to the best of my knowledge) in Wittersham, Kent. His Parents John Ballard (1857-1941) & Mary (Pollie) Humphrey (1862-1918) came to New Zealand in 1909 with a number of children aboard the SS Athenic. Fred himself wasn’t with them & must have chosen to remain in the UK, where he met his wife and had two daughters before eventually joining his family here in NZ (due to the War).
