I have been contemplating the term “snapshot.” In essence, it’s a photograph that is taken with out really composing or aiming the shot. There are days were I post a photo that is just a “snapshot.” Today I wanted to do this type of shooting. Cat and I went for a quick walk through the South Side Spectacular, a street fair held in one of Pittsburgh’s wilder neighborhoods. As we walked, I would quickly squeeze off shots.
As we passed through the throngs, a group of children stood out to me. I have noted them on the streets before, a group of homeless teens. Obviously high and a bit confused, they were being harassed by some of the local teens passing by them on the sidewalk. It was nothing serious, just name calling and such but it was enough to put these kids on edge. Wild eyed with fear they warily watched their antagonists walk past. Meanwhile, I was clicking away. This boy has obviously had a rough time of it. By the looks of both his black eyes, he may indeed have a reason to be in fear.
