Canopic Jar Lid (Calcite, Paint)
This lid was once part of a set of canopic jars. Its size and the high quality of carving suggest that the set once belonged to a nobleman. Although it is uninscribed, the modeling of the eyes and eyelids, the slight smile, and the triangular shape of the face suggests a date of late Dynasty XVIII, reign of Horemheb (ca. 1323-1295 B.C.).
