Dan, thanks for sharing your photo's, looked at most galleries and think the canon 20d gallery is the best...Ron { I ended up with a 20d after four digitals and love it, have the 17-85mm lens...wow}

Comparing online the pictures of the 20D, the 10D and the 300D as well as the 1Dmk2, I must say that the first 3 cameras have no major difference in picture quality. They are as good on each of them, I just notice that the 20D has abetter rendering of highlight details which is a bargain and, for sure, explainable by the higher amount of pixels on the same chip surface.
The 1Dmk2, despite of all it's wonderfull features and solidity, had the worst picture of all Canon Cameras. The basic picture is most unsharp and blured, I had the camera myself for a few days in test and was not able to make it better then most of those shown on Pbase. I think that the 20D is a hit in this pricerange and as one can see, you make a good use of it as well and, for sure, you gained the manual working facilities that the 300D did not offer.
