Movin' On

Bryce Canyon National Park, UT

Today I celebrate several milestones. First I have officially reached half a century of life.
The other is to announce my promotion to Chief Naturalist of Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah.
There I will be managing all the ranger programs, visitor center, educational services, exhibits and publications,
outreach and partnerships, plus all the administrative responsibilities that go along.

I've been a national park ranger for 23 years and in the final decade of my career.
I'm excited about change...and living and working in an area of stunning beauty,
in which photographic opportunities abound. With the difference in locality pay between California and Utah,
I will actually be earning less, which is why I've been in the "Buy It Now" mode for photo gear.

In preparing for the big move, I've not been photographing much lately,
but when I arrive to Bryce in about a month, you'll be seeing many new images.
Visitors can marvel at the incredible geology during the day, but when the sun sets,
the other attraction unfolds...an amazing night sky of stars and planets,
perhaps the best of all the national parks.

It's a wonderful place and the sunrise and sunsets are so great for for photographs and this is also a wonderful shot.
What a great opportunity! Some things are worth sacrificing money for and this sounds like it - I'd do it in second. It's the kind of thing I'd love to do - just need to figure out what I need to know!!!!!
Well done, good luck and what a 50th birthday present. FANTASTIC.
