Tersina viridis

Here is one of the more colorful birds we encountered while in Brazil. The female is green and the male, seen here, is beautiful bright blue. This Swallow Tanager was hunting from a high perch and while we watched he flew out a couple of times to catch insects which he ate before we could get a chance to photograph what was on the menu. Tomorrow we start our fall trip to Costa Rica and are looking forward to photographing more colorful tanagers.
