Melanerpes formicivorus
Acorn Woodpecker is a bird I associate with west Texas, SE Arizona and California since that is where I had my first experiences with them. However, this one was photographed in Costa Rica this past October. It just seemed odd to me to see them along side all of the tropical birds up in the mountains even though these birds were well within their normal range. It is so fun to watch these birds, they seem to never stop moving and their markings never fail to bring a smile to my face.
