Sandbag detail

Everywhere we went in the field, filling sandbags was a way of life. If you were in a position more than a few days you continued to work on improving fortifications. Sometimes it was very social. Some of the medics, given a choice between seeing soldiers on sick call and filling sandbags, would choose the sandbags. In this case they were working on building a fighting position. The M-60 for the position is on the ground behind them. Pictured in the photo are John Madigan, Dave Senkovich, and Mike McCaulla. If you are wondering why I was playing photographer, rather than digging, trust me when I say I also took my turn. It was a collective effort.

I hated filling sandbags ,a neccesary evil , Ill never forget it , and how the sgt. kept yelling for us not to drink too much water, as we will pass out , and that they would leave us there in the sun passed out ,
