Tower

Baku, Azerbaijan

Rules Broken
1) Shooting into the sun
2) Blown Highlights

I wanted to include the tower as a focal point in the landscape and also maintain detail in the landscape. I processed the shot to maximise detail in the foreground and did not attempt to 'check' the further lightening of the highlights as the 'haloed glow' around the Tower only serves to emphasise it's presence. As a whole I think I managed to achieve a slightly 'other worldly' appearance to the scene

What about, on the curve - input 50 to output 63, then input 192 to output 199, then input 125 to output 141? Definitely more contrast, but still not too dark in the wall. If you don't want to go that far, then I think, if you give a closer look at that curve, you might find that you are not going to 100% black, and you could simple start the curve a point or two further to the right. Really quite an interesting scene! ~ Lonnit

I agree with you and played with it for quite a while; eventually for me though this seemed the most satisfactory solution. I couldn't get it to look NORMAL! :) -mcbit

Otherworldly, yes - it looks like a flying saucer! Nicely done, but I'd like to see you pull the curve down a bit, in the shadows, to get a tad more contrast without losing shadow detail. Qualified. ~ Lonnit
