Visual Impact Rule Broken

Rule Broken: Not a pleasing image for most and taken at a bad second in time. Why it works? A dog is a dog after all so licking snow from your nose is a natural thing :) That said, I was trying to catch the snowflakes in the background and he stuck his tongue out at me instead. I like it because although a bad moment...probably a moment that one would not get otherwise if you tried. "One In A Million"...

Ahhh, well at least you caught it! :) ~ Lonnit

Thanks Lonnit :) You have a good eye for the motion blur on the right eye... This was just a test shot but I since figured out that all this time I've had my cam set for the custom function safety shift so it's no wonder my shots have been slightly off. I think I need to just belt the cam to my body so it will stop doing these crazy things lol jano

You recognized a happy accident, and pulled a good shot from it. That's all that matters. :) ~ Lonnit

I agree there was more than one rule broken here... I was shooting snow flakes, he got in my face and stuck his tongue out at me :) I don't know if I'm misguided or what... but if you say so :) jano

Ahhhhh.... poor, poor misguided Jano! LOL! ;) Darlin', this image works b/c it is a universal theme! We all know how dogs will do this - what pup doesn't react to the snow or rain? It was taken precisely at the RIGHT second in time - the peak of action! It is this timing, and this universal theme that allows you to break the rule you really broke - that his right eye is suffering from camera shake. That is forgivable b/c it allowed you to capture the motion of the falling snow, which adds to the mood of the shot. This snowflake blur also adds movement to the image, which is necessary b/c of the more centered (another rule break) composition.

So, although you sound sincere in your text, I believe you are completely incorrect in your thinking, but you believe it and the image works resoundingly well. I believe the image works b/c of the rules I believe you have truly broken. It is due to your sincerity, not your correctness, that the image is Qualified. LOL! Excellent shot! LOVE it! True, classic doggie moment! ~ Lonnit
