Circle of Light

Seattle, WA

(Original claim was that the Rule of Thirds had been broken.)

Revised Statement of Rules Broken: (1) No fuzzyness around objects, and (2) Detail in shadows.

Works Because: (1) Fuzzy shadows, especially the trees on the left (made fuzzy by blowing in the wind during long exposure),
provides a degree of contrast with the sharpness of the circles of light, forcing the eye into the center of the light, and
(2) That which is in shadows (a large percentage of the image) adds nothing of interest to the image on its own right,
but it does serve to break the circle and give depth to the image.

Love this Charlie and the inadvertent moiré effect. It'd be cool to see a closer crop without terrestrial references. - Kelly

I accept your invitation to repost, having first listed two new rules that are broken by this image. Regards, Charlie.

GONG! Sorry, Charlie, but you're sorely mistaken. The image does not break the rule of thirds. Your black bottom covers the bottom third of the image. Your angled "legs" of the wheel meet the wall almost smack on the right and left lower intersections of thirds. Justify this image with a different broken rule. Perhaps one that justifies that lovely long exposure. ;) ~ Lonnit

I like the secondary motion effect of the shadow (moire?) in the wheel. John
