I chose to break this rule to add an interplay of lines to create interest......& tension of course:-)

Thanks Kelly:-) I can't remember this scene but I think the black stripe was painted on the wall & the lighter stripes were shadows. I will try & find the originals & see if there's an explanation there.

Thanks Debi, John & Maurice:-) I never noticed the bent rail before but now you mention it I must have left it in for added tension....cough cough:-)

Works well Rod, I can't believe how sharp that black line is, you must have the histogram set perfectly! ...the only bit I find distracting is the bent vertical bar on the lower right corner, it keeps catching my eye! ;) ....Maurice

You certainly have the least amount of elements in a shot. Aren't these the stairs from a previous shot in cluttered or leading lines? Although as an engineer I design and admire others who design the simplest solution to a problem, I don't think I can come up with the simple picture the way you do. You are at the top of the minimalist game. John

Ok, you're right here... I'll buy the justification on this. I am confused. I don't know which to look at and my eye continuously flits from line-set to line-set between the three. This creates a wonderful dynamic energy in the image. The eye simply can't rest, cycling through over and over. Why must an image ultimately rest? The point of this image is it's energy. Well done! ~ Lonnit
