wow tv, that is really deep. I think I'm going to go with that explanation if anyone asks.

One-sided dialogue with the lamp-creature is like a conversation with my boss. The neck curled forward adds intensity to the assault on the subdued face that can only "take it". Very clever. -tv

JV - Inspirationally well done! And thanks for the behind the scenes info.

Although prior to the currently running challenge period in Challenge 107 Being Backlit, this wonderful image ought to be entered in Exhibition - check it out at:

John, you're about 90% correct. First, I lit the lamp stand. Next, I lit the light bulb and inside of the lamp (the lamp was turned off). For the "rays", I started each trace at the bulb, and moved the flashlight away from it. I didn't really linger, each stroke was a pretty smooth motion lasting 1 or 2 seconds. I was standing behind the "rays" in this part of the picture. And the last thing I lit was my face, holding the flashlight between me and the lamp. The flashlight was angled slightly away from the camera for this part so that the front of it wouldn't show up. This was all done in a single frame. Getting my face lit was definitely the hardest part of the process. I had to try many times to get that right.

JV, Masterfully thought up and skillfully executed. All I can say is wow. So for an 84 second exposure you kept switching on the penlight and tracing back to the bulb and lingering there for awhile to make it brighter? And to illuminate the light stand you shined the light all around it and directly at you face as the final act? As an engineer, I gots to know. John

Nice work JV. I'm guessing this is multiple images? -COAmature

Thanks everyone, I'm glad you like it. You're right b.c., I used a small flashlight to draw the lines and light the scene.

this is really nice. I had thought of something similar but not as cool. But my camera does not have a bulb mode - Debi

What an imaginative take on this theme jv. I like this very much. My desk lamp is not nearly as entertaining as this. I would love to know how you achieved this. Julie
