Cool image Jano.

Reminds me of the poster for the Memoirs of a Geisha. Nicely done.

Nice. A tad more contrast on the sigh and they will buy this image to show it to us all on TV, billboards and just about everywhere

WOW! What a great image! Wonderful composition and lighting. It just shouts "RED" and "LIPS" and it even has some writing :-) I like the red ring around the lipstick repeating the color and drawing the eye down. Beautiful :-) CJ

Typical girls comment as us bloke like the lips in the face shot:-)

This is wonderfully graphic, Jano! And beautifully done! I like this version the best, the lips seem to be just a little farther away and a tiny bit less "in your face". Really, really good work! ~Sharon

That's wot I meant Jano, this crop shows more lip than the other but I still called it a small crop on the lips. Whereas the first one has a larger crop on the lips & gives it tension I think. Gawd it does look good though, you should be quite proud of this one.

To CAT - by the way Cat - thanks for the tips on commercial photography - my eye is usually drawn to food photography and love the way everything is made to look so inticing. I think I need to look more closely at other images as well - it was a lot of fun of conceptually capturing and processing this image - something new to try and xp with. jano

I didn't cut any lip parts off Rod, but just added on to the left ... I'll see if others find it better or worse than before. The first crop is here for anyone interested for comparison sake... http://www.pbase.com/jstrong/image/56432986 jano

I like the first crop better, this one is in no mans land not the whole lip nor creating tension. Cutting just that small amount off the lip seems to unbalence the shot now. But that's after seeing the first one as this still looks very good.

Thanks Cat - no i'm not intending on doing anything commercial professionally (wouldn't that be a stroke of awesome luck hehe).... The logo is shiny silver and my hand might have been not too steady when the cam went off. I've considered some reshooting to see if I couldn't get it sharper. A black logo would have been much better but i couldn't find any make-up that fit. Thanks for your comments though cause I think I could make this much better (maybe a clamp to hold the lipstick and a gorgeous model :) jano

Excellent entry Jano. You have tried to achive several things in one shot. Given the rules of the challenge you have done very well! No complaints. -Cat
But here is my critic, not releated to the challenge theme:
1. If you are intending (this or similar) work to sell to a client for promotion, then first and formost... the brand name/product has to be tacksharp.
2. If you change the skin tone (post-proc) it leads to conclusion that you have processed the original, leading the viewer to question: what's the gaurentee that lip color is not altered from the orginal. So avoid manipulating skin tones, if you have to... do it only to an extent that fools the eye.
Hope this helps if you are taking the commencial route. -Cat

Thanks all for commenting and input - added a little back to the corner of the mouth. I think this works ok. jano

I think you achieved all you set out to do here Jano. I normally don't take to shots that are cropped too much but this really works well for the add you created. It's possible that the client would want the whole lip in the shot, but I like your crop for an added bit of tension. Most set up add shots (& set up posters shots here) can look quite cheesy. But this looks great:-)

Neat idea. Not sure about the crop. I wish the left side of you mouth was in the picture. The red is very stricking without feeling oversaturated. Well done.

Thanks Rod, Techo and Abs. I had a wider crop, but decided that the crop on the right was just where I wanted it... I cropped then on the left as I figured enough of the thumb was showing and no need for the corner of the mouth. My goal was to draw the eye to the commercial logo on first glimpse with the shape and darker thumb and then up to the lips as a sidenote. I was hopeful that as the eye is drawn upward, then the logo obscures itself -- except to a consumer who wants to know where this color comes from.... and then back down to the logo. I hope I achieved this goal... let me know. jano

Terrific work Jano, this looks fantastic. I can't imagine how you set this up without getting lipstick smudges all over. The lips look great too. Well done Jano.
