Nice one Paul, The blue lines on the top portion add interest as well as match your blue shirt. . Great compo! -Cat

Paul, quoting you..."i'm certainly learning more about the limitations of the camera." ... very very true.......
you have no idea, how useful that information had proved to me with my S1.
there are things i definitely know, i can and cannot do with S1, which have helped me get the best out of my camera, i think. -Abstract

Thanks Pedro and Jim,
Jim i tried multiple settings with the zoom and had no trouble getting all of my face into focus but it lost that sense of the huge hand and as i said below when the foremost tip of my finger was out of focus it looked quite bizarre, as if i didn't have a finger in some shots. I have another couple of ideas on a similar theme that i might have a bash at during the challenge and see how they comeout. If nothing else i'm certainly learning more about the limitations of the camera.

Paul, a good idea, and well shot. I don't think there is anything "wrong" with a shot like this having a small DOF.
Did you try any shots like this with the full telephoto, and a smaller f stop, like f/8? It should bring you into better focus. I'm not sure if it will be a better photo, though.

I like it. What I see is that we are all testing with focal range, and learning a lot! It's pretty tough to make this disproportion without affecting focus. It's nearly impossible I guess, since to "big" subject must be so close to the lense.

Thanks for the comments. This was harder than i thought to get the focusing correct and i couldn't quite manage to show more of my facial expression without blurring the tip of the forwardmost finger which then looked very odd indeed. Mary Ann, i'm glad you noticed the use of the blue lines on the ceiling as i deliberately did this in the hallway to get the sense of depth

Great take on the topic, Paul, "grotty" hand and all. The out-of-focus photos on the walls and the lines on the ceiling add to the sense of perspective/disproportion. Good job.

.Paul, do you realise why photographers hire hand modals? As I can't get past the sight of your common manual workers hands. Rough with little cuts & some grime even. I'm doing a hand shot tomorrow with me DSLR & TWO lenses so I'm bathing me hands in baby lotion & Aloe vera, so unlike you I won't require a hand modal.
Apart from yer grotty hands this is a very good shot & playing cowboys & Indians does keep you young. ..............so I'm told:-)

I forgot to add...imho a little more contrast would definitely add to the shot. Well done, Paul....-Abstract

I might be going out on a "limb", but I have to "hand" it to you - that picture punches above its weight!
