Panama (NP) - "Bridge of the World, Heart of the Universe" is one of the mottos that Panamanians use to describe their country. Since the "discovery" of America in 1492, this isthmian country has served in fact as a route for riches, at first coming from South America to Europe and centuries later after the US built the Panama Canal through it, joining the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and turning itself into a hub for world commerce. Today, Panama emerges again as a hub for international flights, telecommunications and internet, keeping its role as a bridge for commerce. It is also trying to promote itself as a tourist destination, merging jungle, city and traditions into an interesting melee that is tempting more and more people to know it.
