For me that's a lot better Phil, I think I would have cropped about another 1/2" so the bottom of the chin disappears into the bottom of the shot. This might alter what you perceive as a good shot of your cat, whereas I'm just looking at making the strongest photo for me. Experiment until the light in your head & heart say "that's it". Never alter a shot to how someone else likes it unless you like it better yourself. It's a lovely shot as it is.
This has a great look to it Phil what a top shot, well done. Without seeing more of the eyes to grab our attention I held a piece of paper up to crop out the bottom just above the lower part of the chin (jaw). This left a little bright bit at bottom left corner to darken. This made the shot a stunner for me. Well done mate:-)
