Thanks Gerald. You are right Jano. I was wrong to move it to begin with and I'll leave it at that. -Doug

Perfect lighting for this Intimidating scene. -Gerald

Hi Doug,

I did get a hint that you meant something to that effect... Would you feel better if you had a hockey mask on, that'd really make it even more bone chilling scary ;)

Thanks again Techo, but it was a poor attempt at a joke about my face looking less scary when it's completely in shadow. -Doug

Perhaps that bit of light just adds more depth, which makes it feel even more real.

Thanks Techo and Tommy. I'm not sure how I feel about having my face be scarier with light on it. -Doug

Whoa..!! Psycho revisited and a great redo. Doug, you have my admiration for the very successful staging. Hitchcock may have met his match. Reminds me of a photo of rehearsing Cary Grant and Hitch in profile like this, without the knife. -tv

Awesome job with this capture. A suspenseful shot for sure. Extra points for being the model. Thanks for sharing the behind the scenes details. That bit of light on your face, I agree it adds to the shot. Don't imagine it looking as scary with just the silhouette.

Thanks Jano. All that light behind me put my face in complete darkness so I added just a hint of light but not so much for the reasons you pointed out. -Doug

I'm coming right for you shu!

Rod, I have an infrared thingy that mounts to the hot shoe. It works just like a flash sitting on top of the camera except fires infrared instead of flash. It was a cheap way to fire multiple lights without tripping over chords but has a drawback of taking about two seconds to prepare itself between fires. My strobes have modeling lights too which make setup easier. My fisted left hand is holding the remote shutter release for the camera. -Doug

I heard someone coming in my door last nite that I wasn't expecting home so early... needless to say I had this vision in my head and almost had a heart attack! Very well executed and well worth the time and effort behind it. Well done! Love it in b&w and especially like the way you cannot make out the face at all. scary! jano
ctfchallenge12-Oct-2009 02:25
Rod
How did you trigger the flash to fire Doug?
ctfchallenge11-Oct-2009 17:38
Is this coming or going? (I don't think I would want to be in either place.....sssshiver.) shu
ctfchallenge11-Oct-2009 15:26
Thanks Rod and Penny. I put one of my strobes at the top of the stairs and shot it through an umbrella to diffuse it. My camera is on a tripod at the bottom. It took me a couple times to dial in the flash strength and exposure time. I did dodge in just a kiss of light on the side of my face to enhance the scare factor. I was going to hold the knife above and over my shoulder in a striking position but I didn't think my mother would approve. -Doug

Yikes! This IS scary. Please be careful! I like the way the light hits the stairs behind you. Penny Street

Bleeding L this topic will give me nightmares. Nicely done Doug you have put the light in just the right place. What did you use for lighting this & if you burnt this in you did amazingly well. Great shot mate.
