Jean-Jacques Sempé

News flash: Phaidon Press is publishing a series of Sempe items slated for release in early 2006 -- these include at least four titles translated into English, stationary, and a travel sketchbook. Hurrah! Watch its website for details: www.phaidon.com . In the meantime, I've posted previews below.

Sempe's a personal favorite, both for his relatively simple, clean drawing styles and also for his penchant for depicting children and their foibles. Wish I could read French!

Thanks to Jesús Sánchez for the contributions and particularly for one of the best gifts I received in received in recent memory: the original drawing of a man tipping his hat. Hats off to you, Jesús!
