Jim Berry

Jim Berry has been drawing Berry's World for Newspaper Enterprise Association since 1963. He is a five-time winner of National Cartoonists Society awards, including two in 1973 for "Best Special Feature." In 1967 he received the National Headliners Club award for editorial cartoons.

Berry attended Dartmouth College and received a B.A. in business administration with a minor in art from Ohio Wesleyan. During college he drew editorial cartoons for the school newspaper and humor magazine. After graduation he joined the Navy and completed the Famous Artists Cartoon Course.

"I try to keep my style and my approach fresh by pushing myself to new boundaries, such as using symbolism and doing cartoons without words," Berry Says. "My style has changed over the years, but I'm always big on simplicity, which keeps it a challenge to get the idea across in a nugget."

In addition to his daily editorial cartoon, Berry also does a Sunday comic strip version of Berry's World. "I enjoy working in color on the Sunday pages and having all that space in which to draw," he said.
"Berry's World", which ran six times weekly, began running on Sundays as well beginning in 1965. Syndicated in some 600 newspapers over its 40-year run, "Berry's World" was last published on February 28, 2003.
