Thank you for your supportive comments Nico, Markjay and Gerry. The structure with smoke is a petroleum refinery, cracking tower, this lake is a natural wetlands area turned into a 'man-made lake'. I used to hunt rabbits , duck and quail about 45 years ago around this lake/swamp area. ~ Melbob

A nice peaceful image with beautiful tones! What's that in the background, a petrochemical plant or a power station?.......

The hues of blue are excellent and those lights in the background are magical looking.
You can try using the shadow / highlight adjustment to bring out the dark areas of the bench next time instead of just the levels (not sure if you did that but just didn't put it in your explanation?). Thanks for sharing this beautiful image with us, Melbob!

Super! Much better now... and really a stunning scene. Lovely reflections and even a couple of real stars! Compliments and regards jnconradie

I felt guilty (as I should !!) and reworked this a little more carefully, developed the raw with a little more care and I think it is a little better now. Hope you think so too?

Thank you Michael and Traveller.

Michael I reached deep into my retirement fund to buy the 5D when they first came out... was on the waiting list. I usually use it for landscape and portrait type shots and the 20D or now the 1D MkII N for most other things. Big investment but hope to get some return eventually.

Traveller, I should be drawn and quartered for this shot.... it was extremely dark with bright lights and I wanted to stop down and use long exposure but forgot that I had set ISO to 800 to catch some action a little earlier... and... to make matters worse I used exp. comp. -2 ish!.

I had to pull the levels up a little too much otherwise one could not see the bench well enough.

Those shadows on the water are ducks swimming back and forth whilst the shutter was open. I should re-shoot using a lot more care!

Thanks for your concern, please forgive my waywardness? Regards Melbob

On fourth thought, you can tell I'm thinking about this a lot...lol, this may print well with very little grain showing....and printing was my principal concern. T

On Third thought, this had to be shot with a tripod...at 25 seconds....lol. I apologize.
The image, the line of trees, etc., are remarkably clean even at 800asa. Best Wishes, T

I don't remember you shooting with a 5D, Bob. Is this a new toy? If so, congratulations! I really like the steel blues and greys of this image, very atmospheric. The light on the bench seat is a nice compositional counterpoint to the factory in the opposite corner. -Michael

It is a little noisy, I was going to mention this but I'm not still sure if the noise adds or detracts. Could you not have taken the fstops down a notch, to acheive asa400?

Also, do you not have a tripod? I only ask you about this because this is, "Hang on the Wall," good and may deserve a re-shoot at a lower asa.

Most images are thow-aways...even if we individually love them...but this is in a different category....I think that's all I'm saying. Oh, what about a pass of neat image, but only on the sky, that's the only place the noise is noticable. Best Wishes, Traveller

Thank you Claudia, CJ and Traveller, much appreciate your comments.

I dropped by this lake on my way home tonight and walked around it until I found a piece of furniture LOL! I had to use ISO 800 and a long exposure (25 seconds) to capture this so it is quite noisy. Even the 5D sensor suffers with such exposures?

This is so nice....the blues are just....fabulous, as are the star bursts on the lights, the reflections, etc, etc, etc. Best Wishes, Traveller
