Thanks Kiki! English fails me too, quite often! Why do you think I called it "claws" :)

Cat: My english frequently fails me. (I prefer to blame the school system.) By "shovel thingie" I was referring to "Claws" in challenge 86. As for the appearant lack of sharpness on her hands/fingers: jpg compression may have contributed as well. I notice I lose a lot of sharpness in small details, the harder the compression. Thank you for the links!

Thank you everyone! I am delighted that you all liked this "portrait" (as Gayle put it :) )
Kiki, As you identifed correctly, yes, this is a folklore motif for "hair-do". BTW the photo was taken at F/16 and has no issues with DOF. Its tack-sharp upto the tip of the nails. What you are refering to might be the effect of softness I added during processing + high key. I also have a sharp version, but I like the softness here, it also helped in muting the bright red by a couple of shades + lowered contrast.
Also, I am not very clear what you are refering to when you say shovel-thingie? Can you explain a little bit more? Please?
As for the galleries, I am really really behind in keeping my galleries updates. In case you are interested they are at:http://photocat.biz/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/photocats/ andhttp://www.pbase.com/photocat/
If you are interested in just the photos of this session: I can't really publish them as yet, as this model is a professional dancer and choreographer and had hired me to create her portfolio. She is also going to use these photos for her website. I will have to wait for her to publish them first, following that I can publish. That would explain why I did not show the "face" in this portrait. I will post a link to these photos as soon as I can.
Thanks again!

Absolutely delightful. Perhaps a little more DOF so her hands were sharper, but the graphic quality is unquestionable. The limited palette works very well with the high key and takes an exotic "folklore" motif like this right into contemporary art. You did that shovel-thingie too.. loved that. I've gotta find your gallery.. I want more! :)

This is fantastic! A really well thought out, beautifully created, DIFFERENT portrait. And lovely muted colours. Very definitely living colour, but not in-your-face colour.
