Olaf, brilliant man. It is the North Star indeed. If we're south of the equator or
really high up, we can use either the North Star or the Southern Cross for the same
effect.

Fantastic image! Would that be the North Star that all the other stars seem to rotate around?

LOL, my patience was fine. I calculated the time, checked the lightmeter, started
the shot, flashed the tree with my White Lightning monoblock and ran back into
the car with everyone else freezing. The temperature up 11,000 feet was below
zero and we were all cold. Chatted in the car for near to an hour before scurring
out unwillingly to remove our frozen cameras from the scene.
