Great idea, ever so well done. The high key and blue tint work very well for me. The perky toes give me smile, clearly he went happily. -Michael

I do have *one* shot with the card placed differently. The resulting detail was, um, "unflattering" I thought!
I'm not shy, but I didn't think too many participants would appreciate it!

Nice one! I still find myself trying to move that card a bit LOL

Gayle, so you like BW as long as it's got a very slight blue tint? LOL! ;) ~ Lonnit

Just re-reasd your comment... yes, the placement of the card was very careful! I did try with a "modesty" sheet, but somehow it didn't work. And even when I used a f/1.8 lens there was still a little too much, um, detail showing! With this one, I knew I'd got it right!

Good job Phil! theFly

Bravo! A standing ovation for Phil. You stepped out of your personal square...well and truly...and have come up with some truly great shots for this challenge. Best in show so far.

Phil,

I am very distracted by those lines on the feet.

Just messing with you...this is very nice. Don't change a thing, unless you want to tint it green.

Actually, this:http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=astigmatism could explain an awful lot!

:)

Ahh - but you have astigmatism :p

iso800 = my standard setting. I very rarely change it. The noise at 800 I find not bothersome at all, especially when printed.

I think this your most successful entry so far. The blue works. For my own tastes is is a little bright, but I can see you're trying to get that *Silent Witness* feel to it. I still wonder why it's a high iso on what must have been a tripod shot though the grain isn't really an issue for this image. You can rest in peace for the remainder of the challenge I reckon.

Olaf - There's a bottle in the post OK!
Canon DSLR Challenge01-Sep-2005 19:32
He must have gone to a happy place! :) The happy, alert toes and the bright light keeps this from being a morbidly disturbing image, which would make me uncomfortable. You kept it fun. I like it. You should stick a post-it note on the other foot that says, "Gone to a better place. :)". Don't change a thing.... I like it! ~ Lonnit

The brightness was very deliberate - in my mind I see morgues/mortuaries very brightly lit (probably a TV thing...)

I applaud you for your creativity in this challenge (that can of creative sauce is highly attractive - will you share?) and I like this composition. Good to see it in blue-tinted black and white, but I feel it is much too bright. I'd like to see it darker and with more contrast. --Olaf.dk

You're all absolutely correct about the skin colour - I simply didn't think that pink was too healthy! It was all a bit of a rush this morning (my only excuse).
A blue tint is probably more appropriate.
As for the toes? Not intentional - the set up was quite tough to get right, getting myself laying down in time to beat the shutter, and I guess that's just how my toes naturally go!
"John Doe" is a very American term. Over in the UK it would probably be John Smith or Fred Bloggs, but I wanted to avoid any location specific names.

Well, I think that the idea and execution are so creative and so good that there is much that I'm willing to forgive. Yes, the corpse looks delightfully healthy...but maybe that's the point. Or, to take this a step futher...if Phil made this shot REALLY look like the blood drained feet of a dead person....or if it really was a dead person....ain't nobody happy then either. In any case I say Well done! Best Wishes, Traveller

I think John Doe would have been a good title for this one. Great shot, agree with the rest about the colour.
Teapot.

Great idea but I agree with Kelly that the corpse looks a little to healthy.
ctfchallenge01-Sep-2005 15:21
i would use b&w with bluish tone. btw why did you lift your toes? that action just makes your feel alive. very nice idea nonetheless. -Abstract

Clever placement of toe card! LOL
One thought - keep the room warm, but blue him up a bit - he still looks too pink ;)
