I like this shot. I don't think the child needs to be looking at anything but the rain dripping down off of the umbrella. To me, just the way it is, this is great.

Haven't we all just stared at something so simple yet so complex as the forms created by water as it flows or drips? And haven't we all just stood and stared, enjoying the sound, the smell, and the feeling in a rainstorm? For all I know, his eyes could even be closed.

Regardless, it's an excellent photo that evokes the challenge theme as well as a lot of other feelings and sensations.

I like it a lot. Jim H.

Nico, I hate to see this in pending as many have expressed their positive reactions to this very good image. We all have different experiences and knowledge and look at images differently. This one is very poignant to me as having a child stare at something like raindrops for a period of time reminds me of the actions of an autistic child I know. So, while the actions of the child in this picture seem a little odd to me, it is a very expressive and powerful image and I could see this being used in an article on autism. I hope you are not offended by my reaction to your very excellent image. Please put it back in Eligible so we can vote on it!
Regards, CJ

Thanks, Michael, shu and tv. I am liking all the constructive criticism a lot! A whole lot! I am sure it is the only way to learn. And the comments are all taken in the positive spirit these are intended. tv, the point about the frame is well made and noted. Regards Nico

This is a wonderfully spare "snapshot" (in the best sense) of life and quite a visual standout - unexpectedly unique among "water" shot. IMHO, the focus of the boy's attention on the falling water would be diluted by any other objects in the frame. In fact I find the shadow border a serious distraction from this otherwise memorable image. -tv

This is so nice! Very engaging in its simplicity and toning. Droplets from the umbrella add additional interest and movement. shu

I think it's very artsy... his not looking at anything. It's like he's just enjoying the whole experience and doesn't NEED to look at anything. Well done, Nico. Nice conversion, too. ~Lydia

Thanks, Lonnit and CJ. CJ, your point is well made, valid and accepted! I'll make you a deal: I'll re-shoot next week-end... provided I can have some more rain showers. Regards Nico

What a wonderful rain shot Nico with the drips coming off the umbrella! Although the wall makes a nice plain background, I wish he was looking at something - please, no offense Nico, but it just seems a little odd, if you know what I mean. :-) CJ

Wow! What really makes this is the rain pouring off the umbrella points. Love it! ~ Lonnit
